Searching for a new adventure, the Young family decided to check out the new Cable Bike Park, one half-mile west of Hwy. 63 on Cable Sunset Rd. We had been excited about the new skills course for a while, and it seemed like a perfect day to check it out.
The bike park was designed and built by Scott King and Brandon Kopische. In 2019, $5,000 in time and materials and over $10,000 in donations and were raised to build a skills park and a pump track (phase 2, coming soon). Scott and Brandon donated their time and talents creating dirt trails through the pines, jumps, ramps, wooden bridges, stairs, and balance beams.
There were a few folks enjoying the skate park, basketball hoops, and tennis courts, while some kids played on the playground and ventured over to the bike park. The whole park was open and offered plenty of room to do your own thing (and safely social distance), whether you wanted to shred the skills park or read a book in the shade (that would be me). There is also a nice pavilion, 2 baseball diamonds, and secluded camping spots!
We set up a spot beside the trail and the guys headed in to check out the features while I enjoyed the breeze, shade, and some gothic fiction. Egan, who originally just came to practice his droning skills, couldn’t get enough, and Chris rode the loops at least XX times. Check out the video linked here.
All levels of riders will enjoy the challenges of the skills park, and there is really plenty to enjoy even if you aren’t into mountain biking. The afternoon was a huge success—relaxing and super-fun all rolled into one. We can’t wait to go back—hope to see you there!
