Coming up on June 9th, you can race in single track heaven for a great cause in the Borah Epic, a challenging singletrack mountain bike race from Cable to Hayward thatdonates all race proceeds to the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association, or CAMBA – the organization responsible for developing and maintaining the world-class mountain bike trails in the Hayward/Cable Area.
Now in its fifth year, the Borah Epic has quickly gained a well-deserved reputation as a one of the Midwest’s premier single track bike races. With testimonials like, “the fastest, most intuitively laid out and rewarding single track I’ve raced in 15 years” and “the perfect amount of mud and
flow,” it’s an event not to be missed.
The Epic offers 2 races, the Half Epic, 15 miles starting at 9:30 at the Hwy. OO Birkie Trailhead, and the Full Epic, 35 miles starting at 10:30 in Downtown Cable. Both races feature miles of pristine single track full of smooth banked turns, rock gardens, and many other choice features. Both races finish at Hatchery Creek Park/Rosie’s Field in Hayward with a finish line bash sponsored by Bent Paddle Brewing.
As in previous years, New Moon’s Tech Crew, lead by owner Chris Young, will again be offering FREE, last-minute repair and tech services at the long race start area in Cable. Riders who need an adjustment or some air, stop by!
Bib pick-up takes place from 4-9 on Friday, June 8 and from 7:30-9 at the River’s Eatery in Cable. Busing from the finish line will run from 11-5 on race day every 30 minutes with stops at the Half Epic start line, Hwy. OO, and the Full Epic start line.
If you’re a spectator, get close to the action at Hwy. OO at the Birkie Trail and at
Mosquito Brook Rd, Birkie Trail crossing. Both locations offer viewing on single track and out in the open as racers cross the roads.
Since 2013, the Borah Epic has donated over $72,000 to the Chequamegon Area
Mountain Bike Association. These funds allow for the upkeep, improvement, and creation of the amazing trails that the Epic features, and that happy riders use all year long.
