Celebrate Women Who Ride

On May 5, 2018 the Inaugural International Women’s Mountain Biking Day will be celebrated. This day, which will be the first Saturday in May every  year, is dedicated to women enjoying mountain biking with each other and encouraging fellow women to join them on the trails.

The idea came from IMBA’s UPRISING event, the International Mountain Bike Association’s first-ever women’s conference held in March. One of the primary takeaways from the conference was simply to go out and do something. Aimee Ross, IMBA Brand Director says, “Engaging your community, getting more people riding and making a difference doesn’t require a big, formal plan. Action of any kind can lead to inspiration, motivation, and even more action. You can get started on the path to more women on bikes or making where you live better for mountain biking by just going for it and doing something.”

In honor of International Women’s Mountain Bike Day, New Moon is offering a sale just for the ladies! 15% all women’s apparel, including jerseys, shorts, jackets, tights, gloves, and vests. Stop by the shop to take advantage of this sale honoring our amazing female friends and customers. Light refreshments will be available.

We are lucky to have some amazing women mountain bikers who are friends, customers, and employees who inspire us every day. Local legends like Cindy Storm and Cindy Bijold, winners of too many races to mention; out-of-state Borah Ambassador Crystal Kovacs who has ridden over 1500 miles of single track in the past year; Chris’s sister Rebecca Ireland, winner of the short Fat Bike Birkie and the Short and Fat. We are also happy to be able to support some fearless young riders as they continue to improve their riding. Lexi Abric, our superstar employee, was the WI State High School Champion and has gone on to ride for Western State Colorado University-this is the future of women’s mountain biking.

Whether you ride with your friends, or introduce a woman to mountain biking, make sure you share the stories on social media. You can also send them to mountainbiker@imba.com. Use #womensmtbday and tag @imba_us. Just a note: In the Hayward/Cable area CAMBA trails are not open yet for use, but call the shop or stop in; New Moon can organize the perfect ride for you this Saturday!

  1. Cindy Bijold says:

I love to help women enjoy riding their bikes(whatever bike they choose). Seeing women grow as cyclists, overcoming their fears. The best thing is instead of me inspiring them, THEY INSPIRE ME!!!
