Chris Hecker is a Wax Tech for the US Ski Team and the newest employee at New Moon. He will be working with US cross country athletes and retail customers to improve their everyday experiences with outdoor races and activities.
Chris developed a vast knowledge of the endurance sport industry after working as a world cup wax tech for Rex Ski Wax and US Biathlon and as a manager of FinnSisu Ski and Sauna in Saint Paul. Prior to this, Chris worked for the Skihut in Duluth while attending the College of Saint Scholastica, where he was also a four year member of the Saint’s collegiate ski team coached by Chad Salmela and Maria Stuber.
Chris has attended one Olympics, three World Championships, and a European Championships as a wax tech in the cross country/biathlon disciplines. He has a wide knowledge of wax, skis, flex, and grinds. He has also had the opportunity to be a part of R&D projects for other ski companies that have trickled down to the retail level.
Outside of the retail world, Chris has participated as a coach of the Endurance United junior program since 2014, working with Minnesota junior athletes during their summer training. Coaching is one of Chris’s favorite parts of summer and he finds it especially fun to see the progress athletes can make over the course of a few months.
Chris is excited about his move to Hayward to be joining such a great ski community. He hopes to share what he has learned on the world cup as well as learn from the other staff at New Moon and the many experienced skiers in the area.
